Youth Activities

The Knights of Columbus understand that today's youth are the future leaders of our communities and councils. With that in mind, our Council hosts activities that teach young people valuable lessons on leadership, responsibility, morality, sportsmanship and compassion.

Some of these activities may include but are not limited to the following:

Soccer Challenge

The Knights of Columbus Soccer Challenge is a competition designed for players aged 9 through 14 to demonstrate the most basic of soccer skills — the penalty kick. Each player is allowed 15 shots at the goal from the penalty line with points awarded for shots that hit different parts of the goal. The highest point totals in each age bracket of both boys and girls are the winners. Winners progress to the district, regional, state and international levels.

Free Throw Championship

Championship entrants compete against competitors of the same age and gender in six age divisions: 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14. Each competitor gets 15 free throws, and the one who makes the most shots wins. Winners progress to the district, regional, state and international levels.

Substance Abuse Awareness Poster Contest

The Substance Abuse Awareness Poster Contest encourages young people (all boys and girls 8-14 years of age) to address a serious issue that affects them directly. Entries must fall under one of these topics: Alcohol Awareness and Abuse or Drug Awareness and Abuse. Contest entrants compete in one of two age groups – ages 8 through 11, and ages 12 through 14. Winners progress to the district, regional, state and international levels.

Spelling Bee

The Father Tolton Council will host a local cometition for the Knights of Columbus Spelling Bee Championship. The Spelling Bee is open to all boys and girls up to the age of 16, but not 16 before the State Finals. The Spelling Bee Championship is sponsored annually by the Knights of Columbus. Winners progress though local, regional and state competitions.
